Congratulations to Tom Spencer for his article on RAF/RCAF Liberator operations and the brief biography of Ferrier Charlton in the December issue. The following will show Ferrier had a stronger connection with the aircraft industry than the article indicates. He was demobilised in 1946, gualified as a solicitor and joined the eminent city firm of Linklaters and Paines, becoming a partner in 1953, and senior partner in 1985. In 1958 Ferrier was appointed a director of government-owned S B (Realisations) Limited, which was the original Short Brothers (Rochester and Bedford) Limited, nationalised by Sir Stafford Cripps in 1943. (It was a holding company for the majority shareholding in Northern Ireland's Short Brothers and Harland Limited.) Simultaneously Ferrier became a director of Shorts.
