RAF and Spitfire anniversaries celebrated at Castle Bromwich

An event was held at the Jaguar Land Rover factory at Castle Bromwich, near Birmingham, on November 2 to mark three anniversaries, two of which were aviation-related. Veterans of 19 Squadron - including Fit Lt Ken Wilkinson ae, who flew Supermarine Spitfires in the Battle of Britain - gathered to commemorate the centenary of their unit's formation. The squadron first flew from a local airfield (now a housing estate) in 1915, two years later receiving the Sopwith Dolphins which inspired the unit badge and tie, the latter worn by many attending the ceremony. The event also celebrated the 75th anniversary of the first deliveries of nearly 12,000 Spitfires built at the Castle Bromwich factory, as well as marking 80 years since the first Jaguar cars were produced.
