The Duxford-based Historic Aircraft Collection (HAC) revealed its Hawker Hurricane Mk.Xlla G-HURI in new markings on August 15. The fighter now represents the 303 (Polish) Squadron mount of the Czechoslovakian Battle of Britain ace Sgt Josef Frantisek, R4175/RF-R.Following the German occupation of his homeland, Frantisek escaped to Poland, before making his way to Britain via France. Arriving in June 1940, he joined the Hurricane-equipped 303 Squadron and was thrown into action. Claiming 17 'kills' in just 28 days -11 with R4175 - he eventually lost his life flying the same machine when he crashed returning from a patrol on October 8,1940.
