At the time of the delta 191 microburst accident I lived only a couple of miles from the Dallas-Ft. Worth (DFW) airport. I was working at SimuFlite Training International, which is located on the southwest corner of the airport. I actually saw the column of smoke rising from the accident while standing in my front yard. I noticed something else interesting. For several weeks after the accident, if there was even a hint of a thunderstorm in the vicinity of DFW airport, the jets would be backed up all along the taxiway. Because of the recent accident, everyone was being extra careful about flying when there were thunderstorms in the vicinity. At some point after the jets had been sitting there for a while, one crew would decide they had waited long enough and would take off. Immediately, everyone else would follow them down the runway. It was fascinating to me that nothing had changed. The thunderstorm was still in the same location, but once one crew decided to take off, everyone else followed along.
