The Need for Speed: the increased popularity of Speed Limit Combat the last couple of years has a lot more people looking at a stopwatch. A radar gun, even surplus, is not cheap, so Speed Limit Combat is defined by the lap time. The rulebook is pretty specific, although the book Speed Limit is aimed at whether or not you need a fuel shutoff. The planes may be timed at any time, they are airborne for a match, whether or not they have streamers. The judge clocks the planes and determines the speed and whether or not they are going too fast. The nominal rule book speed is 75 mph, or 110 feet/second. That works out to 6.854 sec/two laps. Doesn't seem too hard until you are the Contest Director and have to enforce it equitably.
