Great Plane's Lancain ES

Just when you start to get bored with this hobby/sport of ours something comes along and activates that "Oh wow!" response in us. That something for me was this Lancair ES by Great Planes. The real kicker for me was that this was also an "ARF". Before I get into this review I'd like to make a comment about the current crop of ARFs out today. Those of you who know me personally or through these pages know that I'm a diehard builder and not too shabby at it. To bring an ARF to the field was just not something I did. Last year I got a bug for a large gas powered bipe and the Great Planes 1/3 scale Pitts seemed to fill that need perfectly. Although it broke my heart to order an ARF for myself, I didn't have the time to build so this was my only option at the time. Was I surprised when the kit arrived! After taking a very close look at the contents of the box, I had to admit that I probably couldn't build it any better, and I certainly couldn't do the MonoKote job as well! After really inspecting the kit I realized that it would cost me more to scratchbuild! I don't know how they do it at the price, but bravo for this booming aspect of the industry!
