PUTT PUTT Ⅱ Control-line trainer bipe

This aircraft has a long and interesting history. The original idea came from a good friend/mentor, Mr. Howard Bueschel. A few years ago, Howard designed (and still flies) a monoplane trainer which he calls Primary U-con-trol Trainer—hence the PUT in the naming of this design. With Howard's permission, I proceeded to design the Putt-Putt II, the second in a series. The bipe version retains the stability and easy handling of the original, but with a twist! This bipe is accessible! You can change engines in about five minutes. The wings are removable with nylon screws for maintenance. This feature allows access to the bellcrank assembly for inspection. The pushrod is an "off-the-shelf" 4-40 stock Du-Bro unit. Having said that, let's discuss the power-plant. For basic training of young people just learning U-control flight, a fairly low-powered aircraft is desirable. I believe that a "no surprises" approach achieves the best success. An aircraft that flies off ground in a predictable manner will instill confidence in any rank beginner. We have proven this many times with middle school and high school students over the years. Howard and I have flown first timers at many shows with success. Many who attempted could solo the aircraft after very little dual instruction.
