Indeed, things were frantic getting the van packed for the trip to Tucson and the 2005 VSC this year. The front porch gets rather full with items stacked for loading. One retired teacher's meeting and a quick jaunt to my hometown on Wednesday preceded the trek to Tucson. Gary Hajek knew I would be at his house at 6:00 a.m. Thursday morning and he was prepared to join the fray and be on our way west. What should have been a basic 13-hour drive to Tucumcari, New Mexico was extended by an accident on I-44 near St. James, MO, very slow service at lunch in Oklahoma City and a blown tire just east of El Reno, Oklahoma. The tire damage and replacement added almost two hours to the journey. We finished the drive to our hotel in Tucumcari, NM, exhausted but glad to get some rest.
