I first saw the Dave Patrick Piper PA-18 Super Cub fly back in October of 2003, at a local flying club south of the Boston area. Dave makes it a point to travel around whenever he can, not just to show off his products, but also to meet and greet modelers in the field and grasp a "real world" understanding of what people enjoy about the hobby. Back on that rainy, New England cold and windy day, the Super Cub was just a one-off prototype that had only been recently put through the rigors of flight-testing. He told me he had already gone through one engine flying it so much, and he was giddy about the model, having much to say about its special design. But when it came to performance, Dave let the Super Cub do all the talking. In between the rain showers, the two-dozen plus club members and I huddled close together under the welcome overhangs and watched Dave take the Cub out for a spin. We were all admiring his showmanship, not letting the weather spoil what we had all hoped to see.
