It was back in the forties when it struck me that simply squeezing the two ends of "V" type jury struts together, then letting them spring back into fittings attached to the airframe would make for a good and easy installation. I thought it much better than fumbling with small screws that always present the possibility of becoming loose or lost. At the time, I was constructing a six-foot cabin type control line model (called a "goat" in those days) and needed functional struts to support the wing. The model, powered with a McCoy Sportsman 55 engine used a spring loaded metal flap on the air intake controlled by a third line to throttle (choke) the engine into an idle of sorts. I had many, many flights and lots of fun with that airplane. Bouncing it around at a local ball-field, trying to make scale like landings and take-offs, it received a lot of rough treatment. But as I remember, the struts always stayed in place, never caused any problem and proved very dependable.
