Hello all. I know that last month I had said that the trim series was done, hut something came up recently, that I hadn't even thought to talk about. Well, that wouldn't do! After all, we here in the FLYING MODELS Research Department are on a mission to gather every scrap of useless information we can. The subject at hand is the funny whistle that comes from the aileron hingelines on designs with composite wings, that use a bending-top-skin hinge. There is a drawing, below, of what this generally looks like. As the one aileron is raised, a long skinny gap is opened up, in the bottom of the wing, and it opens into what is, essentially, a long closed chamber. How many different notes can you get when blowing across the top of an empty beer bottle? I can get three: separated from each other by an octave. But, I am not really here to talk about the whistle these airplanes make.
