A museum in our area recently hosted one of the traveling Egyptian artifacts exhibits that have become popular throughout the country. One of the items on display was a replica of a model bird that was discovered in a tomb being excavated in 1898 near Sakkara in Egypt. It seems that finding models of birds has apparently been very common during the course of the many excavations that have taken place in Egypt since the 1920s. This one, however, was different. Most bird models have painted feathers; this one did not. Most have extended legs; this one did not. Most have horizontal tails; this one featured a vertical tail and an anhedral wing spanning some seven inches.
