Getting up to speed on flying handles: For years I resisted using the F2D handles currently in vogue. You know the ones that are not adjustable; the ones that appear too small and have no leads, but rather have the flying lines that hook directly to the handle without line clips; the ones without heavier cable running through the handle and carrying the load. But just before the 2007 Team Trials I decided to give one a try. After a couple of flights I still had my doubts. The handle felt thin and small. My hand is large enough that the flying cables rested against my little finger and my index finger. Well, rested is not quite the proper term ... at first my hand felt cramped between the cables. The feel was different. The look was diminutive. And the lack of adjustment was just plain "wrong". I had been adjusting the lines before flight since my first C/L solo many gallons of castor and nitro ago. Tradition must be respected! But after a few more flights I began to appreciate the improved feel for the plane that came with the lack of heavy lead cable.
