Whenever images of P-40s wend their way between the cobwebs of this author's mind he immediately pictures Hollywood's late John Wayne, seated beneath a cavernous, cellophane-covered studio P-40 cockpit canopy and leaning sideways, in an exaggerated manner, signifying to the uninformed movie-goer that he is banking. The shots of plywood and brown paper, shark mouth adorned, model P-40s taxiing, hoppi-ty hop, across a model Chinese airfield, leaves yours truly squirming with embarrassment. However, the old studios should be forgiven, for they lacked the computer generated imagery of today.
