Skymaster's 22nd Midwest Regional Float Fly

On the second weekend of September, pilots in Southeast Michigan take to the water with their R/C creations for a two-day event. The Midwest Regional Float Fly celebrated its 22nd year in 2012, hosted by the Sky-masters R/C Club of Michigan. The venue is Island Lake Recreation Area in Brighton, MI on the beach of Kent Lake. One thou- sand feet of sandy beach and a 40-acre lake for takeoffs, landings, and overflight provides plenty of room for models-and full scale aircraft. I've had the privilege of running this event from 2005 through 2010, but this year was my chance to attend as a participant and photographer for FLYING Models. Dave Wendt (Lake Orion, MI) was the Event Director for this year, and Dave Shea was the Master of Ceremonies.
