59th King Orange International 2013

During the 1960s and '70s I remember waiting for my spring issues of Flying Models to read the coverage of the King Orange Internationals. Hosted by the Florida Modelers Association (FMA), the King Orange International (KOI) is the longest continuously running model airplane contest in the country after the AMA Nats. It was first held in 1954 at Miami's Opa-locka Naval Air Station and later Masters Field. Coincidentally, Masters Field is also famous as a stop on Amelia Earhart's round the world flight. She landed there on May 23,1937.
