Radio Frequency Identification technology (RFID) is being investigated and integrated among the nation's top retailers in the first years of the 21st century. The technology is continuing to gain momentum and to be respected as an effective tracking system for inventory management, as well as many other applications that currently rely on universal product code (UPC) technology. Many areas of the RFID implementation chain are being researched for process improvement, cost reduction, ease of use, and reliability.
