William J. Hurrell, 97 Member FTA Hall of Fame

William (Bill) Hurrell, born Sept. 9, 1913, passed away Jan. 25, 2011, at the age of 97. He was preceded in death by his wife Agnes and his son David. Bill had an illustrious career in the flexographic printing industry. He was inducted into the Flexographic Technical Association Hall of Fame in 1982 and at the time became the first Canadian and 19th person welcomed into the prestigious society. Though he retired from the industry in 1976, Hurrell, remained a consultant on call. Hurrell's active career in flexography spanned more than 50 years. He started in the field in 1930 at Hinde & Dauch Co. Ltd. In the middle of that decade, he moved on to Hender-shot Paperbox, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; only to return to Hinde & Dauch in 1950. One year later, he took the reins of its Montreal plant. He transferred to Toronto in 1956 and became production manager at what was then the largest corrugated box plant in Canada. Next, in 1962, he became manager of manufacturing and operating services.
