An advanced generation of medium-duty hybrid trucks is ready to hit the streets from manufacturers such as Eaton Corporation, International, Freightliner, Kenworth, and Hino. These new models provide fleets a way to improve their overall sustain-ability efforts in an area in which improving miles per gallon by even a few digits can mean tremendous cost-savings each year. Worldwide, more than 5,500 hybrid-electric systems from Eaton Corporation have collectively accumulated over 200-million miles of service. According to the company, that equates to reducing diesel fuel consumption by eight million gallons and harmful emissions by 80,000 metric tons.
