In general, the results of NAFA's 2013 Maintenance & Repair Survey are consistent with those of the survey conducted three years prior; however, when you break down the numbers further, a few possible trends appear. The use of synthetic motor oil is rising throughout the industry, while the use of nitrogen is falling fast; preventive maintenance costs are high - especially for tires - and government fleets are still holding on to their vehicles longer due to current economic conditions; meanwhile fleets everywhere are reporting difficulties with hiring and retaining mechanics.
