Firefighter positioning for forest firefighting

The emergency services arernalready making increasing use of satellite positioning to aid their outdoor operations. Currently once personnel move into heavily forested areas, they lose this location service, due to loss of the satellite signals which are absorbed and reflected by the forest. The main aim of the work being done by Thales Research and Technology UK Ltd, as part of OSIRIS, is to fill this capability gap.rnOSIRIS addresses the monitoring, preparation and response phases of environmental risk and crisis management.
