Primary fires fall as fire deaths rise

The latest fire statistics for England covering the 12-month period up to December 31, 2008, continue to show a fall in the total number of primary fires -down ten per cent on 2007 -and a decrease in false alarms and attendances; but there was a two per cent increase in fire deaths, according to the Fire Statistics Monitor, published by the CLG.rnThe latest statistics show that the fire and rescue services attended 727,000 fire and false alarm incidents in 2008 - a tenrnper cent decrease on 2007. In England, 567,000 incidents were attended (also a ten per cent decrease). Total fires fell by 15 per cent to 327,000 for the UK and 15 per cent in England (to 252,000).
