Following the cabinet reshuffle, the Fire and Rescue Service finds a new Secretary of State in John Denham and a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, otherwise known as the Fire Minister, in Shahid Malik (see opposite). The latest dealings in the parliamentary transfer market are eyed keenly by fire sector watchdogs, although perhaps less furtively than in years past.
