South yorkshire's technicalrnRescue Unit (TRU), initially comprising of 12 members, was setup to deal with statutory responsibilities for rescue such as collapsed buildings, major transport accidents, and rope and water rescues.rnNow with 28 members, covering all four watches, the Rotherham-based unit has been fully operational since October 2008.rnTRU Manager Paul Gladwin says the crews have been faced with a number of very different challenges: "The incidents we have attended range from a rescue where two construction workers were trapped 40 ft down a well shaft, to an RTC where a car had left the M1 near Sheffield and plunged down an embankment. At both these incidents the TRU members were able to put into practice the specialist training they had received and use a range of new equipment to bring the incidents to a swift and successful conclusion."
