Latest on national flood response capability

Following on from the recommendations of Sir Michael Pitt's report into the 2007 floods, and the Watermark report, it was agreed in June that flood response would be incorporated into the Fire and Rescue Service National Capabilities Advisory Framework (NCAF).This means that those flood rescue teams who have made themselves available to the DEFRA Flood Rescue National Asset Register, many of whom received grant funding from DEFRA to bring their capabilities up to the required standards, are now deployed via the Fire and Rescue National Coordination Centre (FRSNCC). As the DEFRA funding has been put to use by grant recipients, we have seen a steady increase in the number of teams declared to the national asset register, rising from around 45 to well over 100.
