There is something of a sea change taking place in the way the UK's fire services are approaching internal investigations into staff management and discipline issues. While it has always been understood that officers within fire safety departments require investigation skills training to carry out their day-to-day enforcement role, managers within these departments are now undergoing specific legal training to enable them to properly investigate employment and discipline issues that have spiked during this period of economic austerity.
