We are probably all aware of the statistics when it comes to the number of dwelling fires attributed to faulty or misused electrical appliances - they are regularly around the 40-50 per cent mark. Every good home fire safety check should include advice to the occupier not to overload their sockets and extension leads, but how does the average person work out if they are using more than 13 amps per socket? This question prompted County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service to approach a local company to develop a simple device to provide the answer. The product that resulted is called the 'Amp-Selecta'™ and is a simple to use guide explaining how many amps common appliances will use.
