Operational challenges in East Sussex

With an area covering over 1,792 square kilometres from Shoreham in the west to Hastings in the east and Crowborough in the north, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has to provide support to incidents in both densely packed urban and remote, lightly populated rural areas. The total population it serves is reported by East Sussex Council in 2013 to be around 534,000, an increase of 41,300 (8.3 per cent) since the census data collected in 2011. To this a figure of 273,000 needs to be added for the City of Brighton and Hove to get the total population covered by East Sussex FRS, a total of 807,000 people.
