As might be expected, the government's plans to bring individual fire and rescue services under the control of police and crime commissioners has been met with a certain level of resistance. The Labour Party, for instance, when it has not been making a holy show of itself over its own leadership, has come out as vehemently opposed to the idea. The Fire Brigades Union, meanwhile, - again, predictably - has been against the move from the beginning, claiming that it would mean nothing less than the end of the FRS in its current, and even historical, form. With that in mind, something which has not necessarily been surprising is that the majority of fire and rescue services themselves have chosen to wait and see what happens.
