All that glitters is not gold: The strategy for strategic command

Over many years operating, delivering training and assessments at strategic level, I have recognised trends developing. The limited exposure to incidents, the lead time for lessons learned to be shared, lack of opportunity for realistic training all mean that it is difficult for strategic commanders to gain training, experience, and meaningful feedback on their role. Over time Gold Command has evolved, and some of that evolution has been abstract and conceptual. Some key trends and traits have developed, I would suggest, not always for the better.
