Airport firefighting: a look behind the scenes

There are over 1,500 airport firefighters based at 30 main airports across the UK. While the role of an airport firefighter is similar to that of a municipal firefighter, there are lots of differences including the regime they follow and the types of emergencies they are called to deal with. I spoke with Nick Curtis from London Stansted Airport, who has worked as an airport firefighter for 26 years, five at Heathrow Airport from 1995 to 2000 and 21 years at London Stansted.
