With a renewed focus from the government to develop vocational skills through increasing the quantity and quality of apprenticeships that employers provide all UK sectors have looked to create schemes for new and existing employees. The Fire sector has been no different and has 900 apprentices enrolled on schemes (2019/2020) with more planned to join as Brigades and national bodies such as the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) look to develop new specifications to enhance all areas of staff training. Added to the benefits of developing vocational skills and recognising training in a professional manner, the new standards across the Fire sector also provide an opportunity for consistency, interoperability and collaboration for all of those involved.
