Intelligence-led risk reduction

Research published by East Anglia University has confirmed high levels of engagement of fire and rescue services (FRSs) and their ability to effectively manage big data. The past ten years has seen notable success in securing national data sharing agreements, which along with local intelligence has enabled FRSs to target resources where they can have the greatest impact. This has included securing home oxygen user data, GP registration data for over 65s and most recently vulnerable people off grid.Lessons learned and the new leadership through the National Fire Chiefs Council's (NFCC) Integrated Data and Research Programme (IDRP) should lead to further sophistication and collaboration.Many public sector organisations are being channelled to adopt a more proactive approach of being intelligence-led and preventative leading to demand reduction. This places FRSs in a unique position to share their learning and to work with partners to develop multi-agency risk reduction strategies.
