GLASGOW AUDI CENTRE FIRE SAFETY ENGINEERING APPROACH CONTRIBUTES TO INNOVATIVE DESIGN CONCEPT

Glasgow Audi is the world's largest Audi centre. The complex is a showcase for Audi cars and the Audi philosophy of 'Vorsprung durch technik'. Through its innovative design concept a number of challenges were posed to the consulting fire engineers for the project. In response to this Buro Happold FEDRA developed a fire strategy for the building in consultation with the regulatory authorities that both reflected and enabled the innovative design. The ￡15 million complex is located at Braehead Retail Park, Glasgow and officially opened to the public on 11th October 2004. Glasgow Audi is totally different to the norm in car showrooms and includes the following features: 1. A museum for classic cars of the past; 2. A theme cafe and specially designed children's play area; 3. An art gallery; 4. 160 Seat multi media conference and events centre; 5. 23 Bay service and repair centre; 6. An inspirational main showroom; and 7. Site parking for 300 vehicles. The complex is designed to be a new, modern, fun and exciting way for people to enjoy buying a vehicle whether it is new or second hand. It is aimed at being an unrivalled purchasing facility for customers.
