NSI responds to criticism

I share MR Grice's frustration in the first part of his letter (Standards have no chance in a cost-cutting culture, September 2008) expressing a lack of understanding of the requirements of the RRO and the appropriate standards amongst fire safety officers and consumers. NSI is tackling these issues directly with the fire authorities. However, I am disappointed with how Mr Grice feels about NSI. We believe we have played a key role in improving standards in the security industry for over 35 years. This was very much the reason NSI was encouraged from within the fire sector to pioneer the BAFE SP203 modular scheme for fire detection, alarm and suppression in 2001. Today we have more fire approved companies than any other relevant third-party certification body in this area.
