A specification for 120 minutes' fire protection has led architects Mervyn Bryson to use Promat Supalux at the redeveloped Bow Street Mall in Lisburn, Northern Ireland.rnThe two-hour window is designed to allow for shoppers to be evacuated and then for firefighters to put out a fire. Because the centre was open during the project, the main contractor, McLaughlin & Harvey, had to install it from the new extension above.rnSupalux was installed to protect the timber joists and form a barrier between the floors. By installing 15mm calcium silicate board, sandwiched between two layers of 19mm tongue and groove flooring boards, fire will be prevented from spreading quickly from the new food court to the retail units below. This method of construction is also designed to prevent the board from being damaged, due to impact or under-loading.
