Kevin Sykes describes the options available to the system designer when planning an ASD installation in a typical clean room. The protection of microelectronics clean rooms requires special consideration. The physical configuration of the rooms and the direction and volume of air flowing through them mean that discovering a potential fire in its incipient stages is unlikely unless high-sensitivity detection is installed.
