Fire chiefs of my generation are old enough to remember the days when it was considered normal procedure to flush anything fluid and unwanted down the nearest drain. Times have changed and fire service procedures are changing with them. We have been taught that to flush anything other than reasonably clean water into the drains is bad practice. Even fluids like beer, milk and orange juice are damaging to water quality if they are allowed to enter the drainage system in large quantities.
