Many aspects of building regulations consider construction material selection with regard to fire safety. They try to ensure a suitable degree of inherent fire performance, where appropriate, for a given application. While a large range of tests exist to assess the suitability of most categories of construction materials, small-scale reaction to fire tests used by regulatory bodies do not necessarily accurately model the fire behaviour of composite building products, particularly with respect to predictions of time to flashover.
