With a decision imminent on the content of the new Approved Document B of the Building Regulations, Bernadette Hartley explains why the National Fire Safety Sprinkler Network believes all large single storey retail premises should be sprinklered. The department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) conducts a review of the Building Regulations every four years in a process which involves consultation with interested parties. Proposed amendments to Approved Document B are released for consultation, and a thorough examination of the responses conducted by the Building Regulations Advisory Committee (BRAC). Subsequently, BRAC makes recommendations to the Minister for Construction, currently Nick Raynsford MP.
