The level of sprinkler protection installed in modern shopping complexes is often inadequate. Ian Hammond explains why this is the case and calls for improvements. For many years, there has been a degree of controversy associated with the variation and scope of sprinkler protection within enclosed shopping complexes. Some of these variations have been brought about by a lack of understanding of the facts and the standards which apply, whilst others, perhaps more controversially, have been prompted by the need for cost savings in the services installations.
