It hardly seems appropriate to call Bluewater a shopping and leisure centre; given its size and the facilities on offer, describing it as a small town might be more apt. The 156,000m~2 project has been built within the 50m-high cliffs created by a former chalk quarry and is surrounded by more than 50 acres of landscaped parkland containing over a million trees and shrubs in addition to seven lakes. The majority of the complex, which includes 320 shops and 40 restaurants, cafes and coffee bars, opened on 16 March. A twelve-screen cinema over two floors is due to open this month.
