This fire affected a hotel containing 138 bedrooms. It comprised a six-storey block with sleeping accommodation and plant facilities, which was linked to a two-storey block housing bars, restaurants and meeting rooms. The fire occurred in the six-storey block. It was of traditional construction with brick walls. The floors were concrete with a concrete stairway at the end of the block. Each stairway was provided with a dry rising main.
