School design guidance

Before 2001, schools were outside the scope of the Building Regulations in England and Wales by virtue of building work being approved by the Secretary of State for Education and Science. Today, schools need to comply with the Regulations, as well as with other safety legislation, notably the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
