As the government moves ahead with its fire reform agenda, learning from the reform of police and making generational changes to the fire and rescue service, it's timely to consider the impact of wider policy change on the whole fire safety sector. One of the key concerns in the sector remains the notion of competence across the sector and especially how fire risk assessors can be judged to be competent in order to provide suitable and sufficient advice to those responsible for fire safety in non-domestic buildings. What levers are there within the current wider fire policy agenda that can help improve competence in the fire risk assessment industry, reducing the overall risk of fire?
