We bring many different types of tools with us to every fire. Not all of them can be used all of the time, but when you have the right tool for the job, life becomes much easier. A tool that can make life easier is the chain saw—that is, if it is used correctly and safely. If used improperly and with inadequate training, it can be a weapon used against us. Although this technique goes against some of the basic principles of ventilation (e.g., venting at the highest point), there are times when conditions may dictate a different approach to roof ventilation.
