On January 31, 2001, the usfa released the newest changes to its NFIRS 5.0 spec. There were 12, for a grand total, according to the USFA, of 205. The other 100 or more alleged unpublished changes—the changes that, as one vendor put it, were "hidden between the spreadsheets"—were critical, to Herb Clark and others who went out of business over them, Clark, it seems, with a little push from the USFA.
