At 03:07 hours on July 24, 1998, asheville (NC) Fire/Rescue (AFD) dispatchers received calls reporting a fire at the Thomas Wolfe House, where the 20th century American novelist had lived. Wolfe, born October 3, 1900, lived in Asheville until 1916, when he left to attend the University of North Carolina.
