The mission of Channellock, Inc., is to be a world class organization. Their long history and outstanding success is owed to the American free enterprise system. In 1886, blacksmith George B. DeArment decided to improve on the farriers' hand tools available at the time. In his spare time, he designed and hand-forged his own. The tools were quickly recognized as superior to those previously available. DeArment's original manufacturing and distribution plan was simple: "Hand-forge tools during the winter months. In spring, load up a wagon with tools and sell them from town to town until sold out. Then, sell the horse and wagon and return home on the train." From this simple business model a fledgling tool-making enterprise was born. It was the offspring of a blacksmith's desire to improve what he had and offer better quality tools to his fellow tradesmen.
