The Protective Systems business unit of Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics has become a major force in non-military hazmat protective gear since the introduction of ONEGIove~R Hazmat in 2005. Since that time, the Merrimack, New Hampshire-based company has unveiled two unique NFPA1991 certified single-skin protective ensembles - ONESuit~R Flash and ONESuit~R Gard (formerly ONESuit~R TEC) - and has just announced ONESuit~R Pro, its newest addition to the ONESuit~R line, with a sneak peak at FDIC 2008. Saint-Gobain may seem like a newcomer to the field of protective gear, but the company's latest product offerings rest on a strong foundation of innovation and performance in this market. CHEMFAB~R, maker of CHALLENGE~R specially laminated PTFE-coated Kevlar~R and glass fabrics, was acquired by Saint-Gobain in 2000. The proprietary film casting technology that made CHALLENGE~R chemical protective fabrics possible was developed in conjunction with the design of a series of tactical chemical/biological shelters and hazmat suits for the U.S. military. The unique functional capabilities of this material - extreme chemical resistance, light weight and superb flexibility - were an excellent starting point for the development of hazmat protective suits and gloves geared to the needs of municipal and industrial hazmat teams.
